Movement and Dance Styles
At Liberty Movement Phrontistery, we don’t just teach modern movement modalities—we’re shaping the future of movement education. By launching a new training school for young people, we’re planting the seeds to influence and inspire the next generation of movers, thinkers, and teachers.
Our commitment to foundational movement education extends across all ages. In addition to training children and youth, we also offer comprehensive teacher training programs for adults in Yoga, Barre, and Classical Pilates. These programs are designed for those looking to teach with integrity, depth, and a clear understanding of the classical roots of their discipline.
Our children’s dance and movement training is grounded in the belief that a classical foundation provides the strongest base for long-term success in any movement discipline. From the structure of Cecchetti ballet to traditional jazz, classical Pilates, and structured acrobatics, our programming cultivates strength, discipline, coordination, and artistry.
These timeless methods support young dancers as they explore modern styles like hip hop, lyrical, and creative movement with confidence and integrity. We teach the “why” behind the movement, so students learn not just how to dance—but how to move with intelligence and intention.
At Liberty, we believe in training well-rounded dancers, future educators, and lifelong movers who are grounded in tradition, yet open to innovation. Through movement, we foster resilience, focus, and creative expression—qualities that extend far beyond the studio walls.
Ballet-Cechetti Method
The Cecchetti Method is a classical ballet training system developed by Italian ballet master Enrico Cecchetti in the early 1900s. Rooted in the traditions of Italian and Russian ballet, it emphasizes clean lines, musicality, and precise technique through a structured, progressive syllabus. This method builds strong, expressive dancers and offers a clear pathway from early training to professional levels, including exams and teacher certifications. Today, it is taught in leading ballet schools around the world.
Modern/Contemporary Dance
Modern, Contemporary & Jazz Dance
Rooted in technique and driven by expression, our Modern and Jazz classes blend the edge of contemporary movementwith the discipline of classical training. Dancers explore grounded floorwork, dynamic phrasing, and musical interpretation while developing strength, flexibility, and fluidity. With influences from Horton, Graham, and classic Jazz styles to current choreographic trends, this program empowers young dancers to move with clarity, creativity, and confidence—bridging tradition and innovation with every step.
Hip Hop & Break Dance
Established in the 1970s in New York City, hip-hop and break dance – as an element of hip-hop culture – has become a popular and innovative movement style across the world. Our classes begin with a community-building warm-up, followed by skill building in small groups.
Students learn and build on choreography, and class culminates in improvisation. In all levels, students explore their personal voice through freestyle (improvisation) and a wide range of codified styles, including breaking, popping, and locking.
